Baby Activity Mats
From birth babies start to learn. They start to see the world around them and as they develop they want to reach out and interact with it. A baby activity mat is a brightly coloured mat that has an arch structure from which various toys are placed. They are available in many different styles, brands and sizes. Some have detachable toys so the baby can be given one to hold or take with them to their cot or pram. The baby mat is normally used only at home, but could be used outside on a nice day.

The play mat offers a safe padded area for the child to lay on. Some have raised edges to stop wriggly babies escaping, but most are flat. They sometimes have interactive sections on the mat. These range from different textures for the baby to touch - like fur, bobbled areas or smooth soft areas of fabric. Exploring through touch is something babies do and ass they start to develop they can start to enjoy the shapes and colours involved too.
Many have noise interactive toys too - things like crinkle or squeak are fun for babies to listen to and learn how to make the noises happen themselves. There are themed mats that have all animal toys or space themed ones. When picking one for your child can be a tough decision. They all offer roughly the same level of interaction and so it's only a cosmetic difference really!
As your child grows and is able to sit unaided they can continue to play with the activity set and the toys. As they get bigger you can remove the frame part and just let them play on the mat.
